SPOILER ALERT. Did you read that title? Yup.
I feel like it has been so long since I’ve given a real update on my life here on the blog. So, grab yourself a snack because this is going to be a (somewhat) long post and update!
The City of Sisterly Love blog was started out of a necessity. A little over a year ago, I was just feeling stuck in life. We’ll label it as “bleh” if you will… You know that feeling? I was feeling “bleh” both in my personal and professional life.
At the time, I was commuting over 2+ hours a day to work in the pitch black on a major highway. I would leave my house around 8:00 a.m. and wouldn’t get home until around 6-7:00 p.m. That’s after sitting in rush hour traffic, dealing with crazy drivers and the overall stress that comes with a long commute (I mean, can you relate?)
Why am I explaining this story? Because in January, I took a huge leap… I quit my corporate job. It was scary, I cried, I stressed and panicked. My palms were sweaty, I had a lump in my throat… But it was a jump that I needed to make.
The reason for my (somewhat) absence on this blog is because I no longer do it out of creative starvation and necessity. There was a point when I was literally blogging EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Do you remember that? The reason why I was doing that was because I had to for my mental sanity. I needed to be able to put all of my pent up stress from commuting into something that was going to progress myself forward.
What I’m Doing Now
Some of you may know through various conversations that we’ve had through DMs, or a story post here and there… But I haven’t posted about it on the blog yet!
In January I quit my corporate job at a huge advertising agency, where I was working with at an amazing company, with an amazing team and on some pretty huge clients (like IHOP, Applebee’s, etc.) to go full-time with Billy and his company.
For those of you who don’t know, Billy has been an entrepreneur for almost 3 years now. He took an idea that he had and executed every single day to get to where he is now. We have 9 full-time employees, we work with over 70+ clients across the U.S. & Canada and just moved into a new 1,500 square foot office.
This is something that we have literally talked about every day since he started this company. Working together has always been our vision. And it’s such a crazy, amazing feeling that it’s finally happened.
If you saw my blog post on What It’s Really Like To Date an Entrepreneur then you might know some of this already! But, I wanted to just give some context for those who may not be familiar with our story. Before starting this company, Billy became the #1 salesman at a huge agency in one year. The guy has more tenacity, grit and drive than anyone I’ve ever met. When he quit that job I was definitely scared, but I knew that he had it in him to execute on his vision… Which he did.
In the last year, our company has grown 812%. Remember, this started with an idea. It’s not some fairytale ending where Billy just fell into this company. He worked TIRELESSLY, putting in 100+ hour weeks for almost three years straight to get the company to where it is now and continues to do so. On my stories, you see the funny, happy-go-lucky side of him. But the majority of his time isn’t spent joking around, it’s spent growing this company.
Why Am I Bringing This Up?
Because I wanted to provide a little insight into where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing.
The lack of blog posts on here is because I’m finally doing something that I feel so fulfilled and passionate about. Billy and I are building our futures every single day – but it takes hard work, intention + patience.
I no longer feel the need to obsessively put all of my stress relief into this blog. It’s not a necessity for me to stay sane from my crazy commute. It has transitioned into a beautiful passion project and community to whom I owe a lot to.
As you can imagine, I am busier than I ever have been. Taking on a lot more than I did at my previous job. It’s new, it’s a learning curve but it’s something that I’m passionate about and committed to.
I want to thank you for everyone who has been so supportive along this blogging journey so far. Although we may not have met in person yet, I truly value the friendship and connection that this community brings. It’s something so, so incredibly special to me.
Perhaps I’ll do a follow up blog post to this one, I’m not sure yet.
But I wanted to finally share one of the biggest life changes that Billy and I have made so far 🙂 This year is going to be the best one yet!
