You know what I love? When something is FREE-99. Today we’re going to be talking about how to create content for your blog on a budget.
When I first started blogging I started reaching out to local photographers in the city, wanting to create content with them on a trade basis. Kind of like a “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” type of thing. I never ended up doing any photoshoots with them. BUT, later on down the line I started getting approached by photographers, pitching me on their packages. “For just $100, you’ll get 3 outfits shot.”
Trust me, I respect the hustle – but as a relatively new blogger, you could imagine how much that would add up. If I shot 3 outfits with a photographer every time that I needed to create content for the blog or my Instagram, that would cost me roughly $1,000 per month.
SO, today I’m going to give you guys a few tips on how you can create content for your blog or Instagram on a BUDGET, aka for FREE!
Tip #1: Use A Tripod
There are so many videos on YouTube where you can learn the basic functions of a DSLR camera. When I first got started blogging, I didn’t even know how to turn my camera on, LOL!
But after practicing & researching tons of videos online, I learned! And you can too. Start out by watching a few videos or reading a few articles that teach you the basics of operating your camera. Things like how to change the aperature, and what an f-stop is.
Once you have the basics down pat, you can start shooting with a tripod! I know that it sounds silly (and embarrassing) but seriously, you have to get scrappy in the beginning. I find it MUCH easier to shoot on a tripod then have to teach Billy how to use the camera. I’m able to get the lighting, angle & background EXACTLY how I want it.
Tip #2: Collaborate With Other Bloggers
Having other bloggers who are doing the same thing as you are is amazing. It gives you a sense of community, support and you can help each other out.
Another way to create beautiful content for your blog or Instagram on a budget is to collaborate with other bloggers! You both need content, so why don’t you help each other out. It’s way less awkward to pose and shoot with a friend and fellow blogger than it is having someone who doesn’t necessarily understand what you’re doing.
A huge tip that I’ve found when it comes to having anyone (including Billy) help me shoot content is to frame the photo for them. Tell them exactly what it is that you want – be super specific & picky because this is YOUR content after all. Have them do the same for you – ask them what they want their picture to be like, what story they want to tell, if the background looks okay, if they want the photo shot straight on or down below!
Tip #3: Shoot Multiple Looks In One Day
If you’re using a tripod, or collaborating with another blogger (or having your boyfriend / husband take your photos) the biggest tip is to shoot a TON of looks in one day!
Stockpile content as if it’s a plague – seriously. This will help you with consistency and it’ll make the best use out of your time. You won’t have to scramble around all of the time for something to post.
Whenever I shoot with a friend or fellow blogger, we usually bang out 4-5 looks in about two hours. We’ll take turns alternating and then just quickly change outfits to shoot the next look!
I hope that these tips helped – they have seriously been a game changer for me staying consistent with my blog / Instagram!
