Finance Hacks For Your 20’s

Hello, hello!

I asked you guys over on Instagram what blog posts you wanted to see and my good friend, Courtney, suggested I cover a post on finances! I did a blog post previously where I gave you guys my monthly expense sheet. I also did a post about my first credit card!

Now, I will be the first to admit that I am not the best at understanding stocks, bonds, interest, yadda yadda yadda. BUT, I am very good at monitoring my money, budgeting, allocating it and saving it. Billy has taught me a lot about this, tbh.

So, I thought that I’d do a blog post on 3 finance hacks / tips for your 20’s!

Tip #1: Learn To Live Without

Go through your monthly transactions – see what LOW DOLLAR AMOUNT expenses you can cut. These will be the easiest to get rid of.

Whether it’s Spotify, Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, etc… All of these things are “nice to haves” not necessities. At the beginning of this year, I cancelled all of my subscriptions.

Bye bye to Sephora PLAY’s monthly beauty subscription, bye bye to Spotify… You get the point. The purpose of me doing this is that I wanted to see what I could live without – and guess what… I DO!

I personally love Podcasts, so saying bye to Spotify wasn’t the end of the world for me. I can still listen to music, I just have to deal with ads now – no big deal.

What really shocked me was the fact that I haven’t even noticed a difference without having my monthly Sephora PLAY! subscription. It made me appreciate and use all of the products that I DO have. I’ve rediscovered old favorites and found new items that I didn’t even know that I had!

Tip #2: Review Your Bank Account Every Day (or at least weekly)

This is a biggie – not only will it help protect yourself against fraudulent charges, but you’ll also realize hidden transactions that you’re paying for!

For example, I recently got a random charge from iTunes – I thought to myself… “iTunes? What… The days of buying music circa 2009 are over. What could I possibly be getting charged for?”

Low and behold, I have been getting charged each month for an App that I don’t even use!

The same can apply for old gym memberships – you know the Planet Fitness membership that you had but recently moved and don’t have a PF near you.

Tip #3: Multiple Streams of Income: Get A Side Hustle

If you want to make more money, generate more revenue then you need to find multiple streams of income!

For me, it’s the blog – while I’m not generating a full-time salary from the blog, I’ve been able to collaborate with brands in a way that it’s not taking away from any of my financial resources.

While we’re young and in our 20’s I think we need to make the most out of our time. Whether that’s creating a virtual services business, taking a job on the weekends or finding some other stream of income (Uber, Lyft, InstaCart, etc).

If you guys like these types of blog posts, I’ll continue to share my tips and insights! 🙂 I’m no financial planner, just a soon-to-be 24 year old gal sharing how I’m navigating my 20’s!

Let me know if you enjoyed this post! 🙂

xx,
Emily
