Here it is you guys, my review of The Ordinary – so many of you have messaged me over the past few weeks asking how I’ve been liking these products.
If you’ve been following along with me on Instagram, you know that I only spent $62 for all of these products – can you believe that?!
I first heard about The Ordinary from a podcast on The Skinny Confidential (my favorite thing to listen on my commute). Lauryn had me at, “affordable” (no shocker there). But I was floored when I learned the concept behind these products.
Basically, The Ordinary is no bullshiz skincare. They have highest + most pure quality products for a fraction of the price that places like Sephora and Ulta charge. It’s an extremely unique company which I’m all about – honestly, the weirder the better.
They strip back all of the unnecessary costs that go into making a product that cause the prices to skyrocket. For example, they don’t use any models in their social advertising – everything is shot table top or flat lay. They scale back their packaging, eliminating the excessive “glitz and glamor”. All of this is done in order to bring us – their customers – the highest quality product without having to jack up the prices.
Most of their items are under $10, I’ve scored a few items for $6. Yes, you read that correctly… Six freakin’ dollars. This is truly the Trade Joes of skincare – affordable, fast, + reliable.
Also… Their packaging is genius. I’m obsessed with it – it makes me feel like a mad skincare scientist ? Most of their products are in amber glass – this darker colored glass helps to preserve the purest forms of the ingredients. A lot of companies use a clear glass, but this actually harms the product. When light hits the bottle, it dilutes the power of the ingredients. So, if you’ve got a product with Vitamin C in it and it’s in a clear glass bottle, chances are that product isn’t working to it’s full potential anymore.
I could go on and on about this company. So I’ll stop my fangirling right here. Let’s get into the product… Shall we? I’m going to go in order of how I use them – so read this as if it were a step by step guide to my skincare routine using The Ordinary products. I literally use these every single night.
Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution.
Every good skincare routine starts out with a toner. Toner’s help to shrink pores, return your skin to it’s natural pH balance and so, so much more.
This specific toner is great for anyone who gets those pesky clogged pores that result in a tiny, tiny little bump (also known as milia, but that’s too technical of a name). I’m not talking about acne here – I’m talking about those little white (or brown) bumps that build up on the forehead and nose area. You can’t seem to ever get them to go away.
By gently exfoliating the skin, this toning solution helps to restore radiance in your skin. I love to apply it after I’ve removed all of my makeup and washed my face. Simply dab a little bit onto a round cotton pad and gently wipe your face.
Vitamin C Cream
If you’re reading this, you need to be using a Vitamin C cream. It is quite literally, my life’s mission to look 23 when I’m 43. Lol, you may think that I’m kidding but… I’m not.
Vitamin C helps to prevent aging – it rejuvenates the collagen production in your skin making those fine lines disappear. I am obsessed with this stuff – it tingles just a lil bit but I love that feeling.
This is the first product that I apply after doing my toner – just use a tiny amount and gently rub it into your skin with your hands. Always remember to drag the product up, meaning you don’t want to pull down on your skin – gravity’s already doing that ;). So, always rub your product up instead of down!
Let’s talk exfoliation – an essential part to any skincare routine. When you think exfoliation you’re probably thinking of the St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub that we all used in 7th grade because it smelled good and felt cool. But I’m talking about grown up exfoliation – graduating to chemical exfoliators.
If you saw my blog post on The Body Shop then you know that I’m obsessed with their Drops of Youth exfoliating peel. But, there’s another chemical exfoliator that I’m obsessed with.
The Ordinary’s AHA/BHA peeling solution is… amazing (no shocker there). First of all it’s bright, beet red – when I applied it for the first time I ran out out the bathroom and pranked Billy that I was bleeding (LOL!)
BUT, this stuff is next level. You apply a few drops all over your face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes, after that you’ll want to gently remove it with warm water or a warm wash cloth.
I’m sure you’ve all heard about retinols – your moms, grandmothers or sisters have probably been using them for years. But I want to introduce you to a RETINOID – a little bit of a more gently form of anti-aging goodness.
Retinoids help to preserve your youth – they fight against signs of aging like: fine lines, wrinkles and dulling of the skin.
This product is gentle enough to use every night. I apply it AFTER the Vitamin C cream. On days when I do a chemical exfoliator, I don’t use this product and give my skin a little bit of a break.
I’ll keep this one short and simple – this fights against aging (do we see a theme here). Argireline is a proprietary solution / formula that helps to improve the appearance of skin folds.
I apply this product to the areas where signs of aging / fine lines / wrinkles usually appear: forehead and around the eyes.
BUT, you have to be careful around the eyes because if you get it IN your eye it will sting.
“These eye bags are designer” – but no eye bags are better than designer eye bags ;).
This caffeine solution helps to eliminate dark circles, puffiness and all of the other issues that can crop up around our eyes.
I apply this stuff underneath of my eye cream – it helps products glide on super smooth! It doesn’t irritate your eyes so you don’t have to worry about getting it in your eye!
OILS OILS OILS OILS.
You hear me talking about them all of the time. If you’re not using oils YOU NEED TO BE. I can’t even begin to explain how much oils have transformed my skin – especially around my neck and chest area.
This is the very last step in my skincare routine – after all of my exfoliating, peeling and wrinkle-correcting products are on, I go in with both of these oils.
Both of these oils help to support healthy skin, they truly give you that “glow from within”. I take them all of the way down my chest – do not neglect these areas ladies! Your neck and your hands are the first places to show signs of aging.
So, if you’re scared of oils… TRY THEM OUT. I swear that they’ve solved so many of my skincare issues.
I hope that you guys try some of these products out – if you do, don’t forget to tag me or tell me what you think!
